a word from the administrator

Welcome to Somerset Christian School!  It is our mission at SCS to bring every child to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ, to disciple children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord, and to provide a superior Biblical education instructing the whole child.

1 Peter 2:9  says, “But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.”

Changes continue at Somerset Christian School. In 2015 we launched our new student information system. Through Sycamore Education, we have given parents an incredible tool to stay connected and on top of with their child’s education. In addition with the expansion of our school staff, we are now a fully traditional high school with “real” teachers. We no longer offer online classes with the exception of some electives. We are truly a Pre-K through Twelfth grade school! Praise the Lord!

Blessings!

SCS PHILOSOPHY OF EDUCATION

God is the author of all truth.  God created man to glorify Him. God created and sustains all things through His Son, Jesus Christ. The universe and all of life are dynamically related to God and should serve to glorify Him.  Men and women were made in God’s image by a direct act of creation.  They are different from any other life form and have the unique capacity to know God and obey Him by an act of the will.  Man in his sinful condition, however, incurred by original sin, can only know and honor God through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ for his sin.  This sacrifice is received by an act of the will in acknowledging Christ as Savior and Lord, and enables man to know and do God’s will, man’s purpose in this life.

The process of education should seek to bring the student into fellowship with God, recognizing his lost condition apart from salvation through Christ, to develop a Christian mind in him and train him in godliness, so that he can fulfill God’s plan and purpose for his life personally and vocationally.  He must be taught the Bible so that he may understand the character and nature of God, his own nature, and God’s plan of redemption for the world.  He must be developed and related to God as a whole person:  spiritually, mentally, physically, socially.  He must learn to see all truth as a gift of God and learn to see from God’s perspective.  He must be educated as an individual with his unique combination of talents, personality and learning style.  He must be shown how to live and work with others in a God-honoring way.

The authority of education is derived from God, who instructs parents to teach their children to love God, to follow His law, and to place Him first in their lives.  Parents are responsible under God for the total education and training of their children.  The Christian school is a partner with the parents in providing a Christ-centered education.  Children are to be acknowledged as a gift of God to be educated to His glory, and raised in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.
